Utah Stonewall Democrats (formerly the Gay and Lesbian Caucus of the Utah Democratic Party) voted overwhelmingly to endorse Mayor Rocky Anderson for re-election over his rivals on Wednesday night.
At a candidate forum held Wednesday night at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Utah, candidates Rocky Anderson, Molonai Hola and Frank Pignanelli fielded questions relating to issues surrounding the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community of Salt Lake City. All five candidates for Mayor were invited, with only those three choosing to attend.
"The people associated with Utah Stonewall Democrats have seen Mayor Anderson during his first term as Mayor act with respect, support and pride in regards to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered issues," stated Adam G. Bass, Vice Chair of the Utah Stonewall Democrats. "We believe, of all the candidates for Mayor, that Rocky would be the best person to lead this city and the best person to represent all of its citizens."
The Stonewall Democrats voted by secret ballot, and Mayor Anderson received 67% of the votes of the caucus members present at the candidate forum, thus giving him the official endorsement of at least two gay-rights groups in Salt Lake City (Unity Utah endorsed Mayor Anderson previously).
